Change MDGOP Post #1 - "Those who do not study history are doomed to repeat it"

Yes, during the 2014 national elections, my people and I were critical to the election of the largest Republican Party majority over the last 70 years of U.S. history!  Especially now that the elections are over, we liberty, Tea Party types and other minorities can no longer be accused (albeit falsely) of "hurting the Republican Party" nationwide, or even just here in Maryland.  Nonetheless, there are a lot of lessons to be learned, analysis to be completed, as well as unfinished business to take care of in this state as we move on towards winning the 2016 and 2018 elections for our people.

Over the next few posts and polls, we will be covering certain issues regarding operatives of the MDGOP's past and present who may (or may not) be relevant to the current Party and its future here in Maryland.  Your comments positive, or even negative, are most welcome here, though stupid and/or vulgar comments will be deleted.  Thank you, and you're welcome.

Four of our fellow real Republicans from Carroll County stood up for the Maryland Consitution!

Dear Central Committee members or candidates,

I wanted to bring you up to date on the situation in Carroll County with the Central Committee and its legislative vacancies.  In two earlier emails I sent  I outlined the process we had created to pick a single name to fill each of two open legislative seats in Carroll, and then how our committee was strong armed by administration representatives into throwing out that process and our selectee and into giving three names for each seat.  Now, since we gave the Governor the name he wanted, Del. Justin Ready, we have a third opening to fill.

Over the objections of four members, our process was revised and we began preparing to send three new names to the governor. The Carroll Court would not step in to prevent our Committee from sending multiple names and give us time to have it heard in the courts.  We also tried to get the committee to agree to a consent decree stipulating a single name in return for our stopping all other legal action, but they ignored that offer.  As we were left with no other choice, we filed our complaint with the Court of Appeals and it will be heard today, Monday, March 2.  The Court of Appeals has also temporarily prohibited the committee from submitting multiple names for this new open seat until it makes a decision.  The committee, if willing to choose a single name, was allowed to do so. Unfortunately, the majority of our Committee are yet again unwilling to send a single name and have canceled the meeting we had scheduled last week to make our selection.  The majority have also been unwilling to schedule a meeting even after the case is heard today.  They appear to be content to simply let the clock run out on our duty to make a selection, whether they win and can send multiple names, or lose and are confined to sending a single name.  We have until this Wednesday to submit a name or the selection goes, according to the Constitution, directly to the Governor to decide. (If the Governor decides without any input from the Committee, then we will certainly know who we were supposed to have put on that list of 3 names.)

On February 14th the MDGOP held its Executive Committee meeting, comprised of all the chairs and all the state officers.  I attended that meeting knowing that the selection process for legislators would likely be one of the agenda items.  It was.  They closed the meeting for that portion of the agenda, but you will find attached the recommended process which the MDGOP will be pushing at the next convention.  It has many problematic sections and does little to protect the committees’ authority in filling open legislative seats.  In fact, it empowers the MDGOP and the Governor, which means less authority for the Central Committees. In that meeting, Diana Waterman declared her opposition to the legislature taking the authority from the Central Committees and going back to special elections.  Unfortunately, she seems perfectly willing to take that authority away herself, given the attached Policy on Filling Legislative Vacancies, and given the fact the Dirk Haire, the MDGOP lawyer, is now defending the portion of the Carroll County Central Committee intent on sending three names to the Governor.  So, Diana Waterman, along with Second Vice Chair Larry Helminiak, have both taken very public stances for the Central Committees to acquiesce to the demands of the Governor and send three names, thereby surrendering the Committee’s authority in filling the vacancy.  That is not where either our Chair or Vice Chair should be.  Their duty should be in defending committee authority not surrendering it, whether to our governor or anyone else.

If the Court of Appeals rules against us and says that we are Constitutionally allowed to send as many names as either the committee or the Governor wants, then we are left with nothing more than the status quo---in essence, nothing will change and Chairs can either go along with the Governor or not.  If, however, the Court of Appeals rules for us, then legally only one name can be sent to the Governor to fill a legislative vacancy.  Our lawyers expect the Court to hand down its ruling today, tomorrow at the latest.
I hope you are safe in your commute this icy morning.

The Democrats, unions and even some RINOs, are once again tampering with the selection process for candidates to fill recent Carrol County Republican vacancies in the Maryland General Assembly.  We are requesting the public's help in outing any of those unqualified, disingenuous and/or otherwise unfit candidates for possible appointment by the current governor.  Feel free to comment, anonymously or otherwise, regarding those shill candidates and related issues on this thread.

The Maryland Constitution clearly stipulates that the Party Central Committees of Maryland are to submit just one name for such vacancies.  So, we are stepping up to help our fellow real Republicans in Carroll County vett the current crop of 26 candidates as listed in poll elsewhere on this web page.  Thanks, in advance, for you genuine concern and support!

Questions for MDGOP Chairman candidates regarding Republican NATIONAL Committee policy issues

The following are questions for MDGOP Chairman candidates regarding Republican NATIONAL Committee (RNC) policy issues which the Chairman would or should take a national policy position on as one of our representatives at the NATIONAL level.

1.  Why would you - or not - strongly oppose any efforts which facilitate the legalization of same-sex marriage at the national level?

2.  Why would you - or not - support any "gun control" compromises which infringe upon the individual right to keep and bear arms, even in the most annoyingly minor ways?

3.  Why would you - or not - support the thorough investigation and prosecution of violations of our constitutional rights and civil liberties committed under both the Bush/Cheney and current Obama/Biden administrations?

Full 3 minute text version of testimony submitted to the MD House Judiciary Committee by Augustus Alzona 3-5-2013

March 5, 2013

I am Augustus Alzona, a humble immigrant from Asia, a Maryland resident taxpayer for over four decades, a business owner, citizen activist and community organizer from the limousine liberal occupied territory of Montgomery County.  I am also a former, two term member of the county’s Committee on Hate / Violence.

Mr. Chairman, honorable members of the Judiciary Committee, I urge you to vote down these gun control bills - especially for the following two reasons.

1.  They are inherently racist in nature and application.
2.  They are anti-Catholic, anti-Christian.

No. 1 – They are inherently racist in nature and application.

During the infamous 1992 L.A. (Los Angeles) Riots, after the LAPD (Los Angeles Police Dept.) withdrew from the south central district, barbaric hordes of thugs assaulted and killed innocent civilians, as well as looted and burned down several local minority-owned businesses.  The decent law-abiding working people of South Central were basically abandoned by the police who had withdrawn to protect the more affluent areas of Hollywood, Beverly Hills, etc.

When the well-armed lawless thugs attacked “Koreatown” they were prevented from reaping mayhem and plunder there by my fellow Asian American businessmen wielding so-called assault weapons and other semi-automatic, homeland security devices with high-capacity magazines.

These gun control bills would inhibit, if not outright ban, my fellow law-abiding Asian Americans from possessing those types of homeland security devices, especially those high-capacity magazines, which are needed when facing multiple assailants carrying same.

No. 2 – These violate my human rights as a Catholic Christian.

As pertains to self-defense and weapons, I hereby quote from a recent translation from Latin, of relevant passages from the Justinian Code, a legal pillar of Western Civilization.  (Footnote 1)

“”I. SELF DEFENSE

Roman law was very protective of the individual’s right to defend himself and his property from violence, whether offered by a thief on a darkened highway or a soldier in search of plunder.

A provision attributed to the late fourth century A.D. reads:

We grant to all persons the unrestricted power to defend themselves (liberam resistendi cunctis tribuimus facultatem), so that it is proper to subject anyone, whether a private person or a soldier, who trespasses upon fields at night in search of plunder, or lays by busy roads plotting to assault passers-by, to immediate punishment in accordance with the authority granted to all (permissa cuicumque licentia dignus ilico supplicio subiugetur). Let him suffer the death which he threatened and incur that which he intended (Codex Justinianus (“CJ”) 3.27.1).

The legislator then explains the rationale for this provision, stating, “For it is better to meet the danger at the time, than to obtain legal redress (vindicare) after one’s death.”

And he concludes:

We therefore permit you to seek your own revenge (ultionem) and we join to this decree those situations which a legal judgment would be too late to remedy (quod serum est punire iudicio).

Thus, let no one shrink from facing (parcat) a soldier, whom it is fitting to challenge with a weapon (telo), just as it is fitting to challenge a thief (A.D. 391).

This provision recognizes not only an individual’s right to self defense, but explicitly permits the private use of a weapon (telum) for the purpose of countering an assailant as well.“”

These bills severely inhibit, as well as subvert my human rights, as a Catholic Christian, to self-defense as codified in Codex Justinianus (Justinian Code) – human rights laws which even predate the U.S. Constitution and the founding of this country.

Please vote down all bills which inhibit my constitutional and civil rights.

Respectfully submitted,

Augustus Alzona

Alzona presages 2012 Maryland GOP election results in a Gazette Newspapers story

Augustus Alzona presages 2012 Maryland election results for the GOP in a Gazette Newspapers story, by C. Benjamin Ford, quoted below:
...
In Montgomery County, nonaffiliated voters passed registered Republicans for the first time in December 2010. In the latest report, there were 333,118 Democrats, 123,404 Republicans and 133,523 nonaffiliated voters.

Augustus Alzona, who served on the Montgomery County Republican Central Committee from 1998 to 2002 and again from 2006 to 2010, said he was not surprised.

From his observations, voter registration outreach efforts by the Montgomery County GOP initially helped attract new voters, including minorities in the increasingly diverse county, Alzona said.

But then, money raised was sent to help the top of the campaign tickets and less was spent on local retail political efforts, he said.

That was a major reason why the number of nonaffiliated voters eventually passed the number of registered Republicans, he said.

Republican numbers have continued to decline in Montgomery County, while the number of Democrats and nonaffiliated voters grows, he said.

Alzona, who remains a Republican, expressed frustration that as a socially conservative Catholic, he believes too many Republicans are supporting same-sex marriage. This could lead other social conservatives to leave the party and either become independents or find another party to join, he said.

“One of my pet peeves was the focus was solely on fundraising and not on the grass-roots fundamentals of registering voters,” Alzona said.

THE (former) EMPIRE STRIKES BACK

- or how the failed Ehrlich/Kane legacy campaign punished Maryland’s conservatives, other minorities, plus Alex Mooney and former Brian Murphy supporters.

These injustices occurred at the 2011 Maryland Republican Party’s Spring Convention down in Ocean City, Maryland last weekend, May 6th-7th, 2011.

The following is based on my onsite observations as a proxy holding member of the Montgomery County Republican Central Committee and a veteran conservative volunteer activist in the GOP.

Using Saul Alinksy/Democrat/union thug type tactics, Republican leaders of a highly prejudicial 2/3rds majority of voting delegates at that convention voted to include a new, highly discriminatory, permanent voting scheme into the state Party by-laws.

There was a successful, rather naked power grab, which summarily disenfranchised minority Republicans in the state’s three largest jurisdictions.  The remnants of the former Ehrlich/Kane gang, which controlled both the State Party and local Montgomery County Republican Party since 2002, managed to accomplish the following during last weekend’s convention:

1.  Alienated the new conservative majority of Montgomery County Central Committee members, elected in the fall of 2010.  (Note that true conservative, gubernatorial candidate Ellen Sauerbrey did receive 41.33% of the general election vote in Montgomery County in the nineties, versus “moderate” Bob Ehrlich’s 30.51% in 2010 - debunking the myth that conservatives cannot do relatively well here).

2.  Further marginalized the local Ehrlich moderates, who had worked so hard in 2010 to mitigate Ehrlich’s lame reputation among Montgomery County voters as a whole.  At the convention, Republicans from the state’s largest counties were falsely accused of not having worked hard to enough to “produce” statewide victories for our lame 2010 statewide candidates.  Truth be told, the responsibility for the statewide Ehrlich/Kane ticket failures of the 2010 election should rest solely on the failed leadership and paid operatives of both their local, as well as statewide campaigns, many of whom still have jobs and remain in power at the local, as well as statewide levels to this day.  We know who these people are.  Do you, too?

3.  Severely reduced the power of Tea Party Activists, including constitutionalists, from the state’s largest jurisdictions.

4.  Reduced the support, of both suburban moderates and conservatives for the non-partisan, non-ideological campaigns against illegal immigration (e.g. the anti in-state tuition for illegal immigrants petition).

5.  Have made it less likely that “Rule 11” reform will ever be incorporated into the by-laws.

6.  Have divided, not united, the Maryland Republican Party even more so, by the very public insults hurled at Baltimore City, Prince Georges and Montgomery County Republicans.

Maybe the time has come for Republicans from the state’s three largest jurisdictions to consider seceding from the new Confederacy of Maryland?  That unholy confederacy includes some tyrants from certain county delegations who hate Montgomery County.

That’s all for now…… Stay tuned for a more detailed expose of what really went down at last weekend’s convention in Ocean City….

Why the One-Person-One-Vote default is the only constitutionally sound voting methodology

Maryland Republican Central Committee Voting Methodology - 20110426

Why GOP central committee members should vote down the proposed, unconstitutional, socialistic state party by-laws changes

An open letter from an honorable, longtime Carroll County Republican Party patriot::

"Dear fellow Maryland Republicans,

Upcoming at our May State GOP Convention is going to be a review of
many proposed changes to the State Party By-Laws.

Any organizations' By-Laws certainly set the tone for, and guide the
progress of, or lack of same, for any organization. Either they
foster the goals of the Party, or they kill them, based largely on
how well the By-Laws are constructed, or are used.

As both a member of the 2007 and 2011 By-Laws Committee, I must
plainly state what has been produced from this current Committee, is
if passed in total, going to lead to another 40 years in the darkness
for the State GOP.

This time around the entire process was rushed, due consideration and
discussion of important points were lacking, or ignored. Several
damaging proposed changes were made, which were then pushed through,
over the protests of many Committee members.

While many members of the Committee tried hard to do quality work,
this was not the views of all the Committee. A specific agenda was
being played out.

Several punitive sections were added, and of course, these would not
have been added, if someone did not look to use them into the future!

An entire section, dubiously named the 'Judiciary Section' was
conceived. Although proposing to illegally empower the Party to strip
the legally elected position of any Central Committee member, where
they judged sufficient 'cause' to exist, was pushed through, in spite
of the notification this could not be done legally!

Basically, as many do not find discussions of By-Laws to be
interesting, take heed! As they say, the 'Devil is in the details' as
always! These changes, if passed for the current By-Laws, will result
in the crippling of the Party, if not the Party getting sued!

Not only would this cripple any fund-raising efforts, instead of
training future GOP leaders, we would become the Party of 'Sit Down &
Shut Up' lest we remove you from your position! What poor example
that type of move would set?

The ironic point is these changes taken as a whole would promote the
Party itself as all powerful, over top of the individuals elected to
represent the Party!

Thus we would be changing the entire concept of a 'We the People'
type GOP into a poor copy of the Soviet version of what a 'Party'
really would be, for our future! We would allow the crushing of
individuals, for the sake of the Party, or really, the Party elite,
threatened by new ideas and the Tea Party types elected in September!

In the Socialist Republic of Maryland, this will not do us any good,
but at least we will be in line with the rest of the State's
viewpoint!

Sincerely,

Joseph Burns, Jr.
Carroll County

Power grab by failed Maryland GOP elites of 2010 - soon to be exposed?

Below quote is from a longtime Maryland Republican activist and credible source who wishes to remain anonymous.
"
'Folks of the Republican State Party, two party government, real
election candidate choices, or supporters thereof!

Coming to a potential head is a report to be completed shortly and
then published to the general Central Committee members by the State
GOP's By-Law Review Committee!

This review report along with a draft copy of the proposed By-Law
changes should be out soon!

Charged with a review of their clumsy past 'LCD Voting' method,
totally confusing and disliked, plus cleaning up some minor
inconsistencies present in the current By-Laws, what actually will be
the final recommended product?

Will these changes help, or forever kill the 'Grand Old Party' in
this state for the rest of the century?

Are these potential changes going to allow the GOP to move forward,
after clearing up some items which had the Party forever tripping
over themselves?

Or will some of these changes result in the "Gang Who Could Not Shoot
Straight' again shooting themselves in the head once more?

Did Maryland's #2 political party learn anything from the latest
election cycle, take into account and embrace the wave of 'Tea Party'
driven political reforms to move forward?

Did the promise of real change represented by a needed & necessary
almost clean sweep of the 'Old Guard' out of party officer ranks,
which was a vast improvement, but was not complete!

Or are the 'Old Guard Elite' using some internal tricks to fight back
& possibly reassert themselves into prominence?

Will all those positive changes represented by new GOP Party Chairman
Alex Mooney, and the new leadership be torpedoed in their reform
efforts?

Are the old inner circle 'elites' trying to re-create the Get Along
to Go Along GOP 'Democrat lite' which has proven to be so effective
over the last 40 plus years fighting over token scraps?!?

The jury is presently out, but some of the results may well be coming
in for a clue which way the wind is blowing now! Either these
potential By-Law changes will allow the GOP to get their house in
order, to move forward, or perpetuate the 'old boy' dysfunctional
party we have come to expect in Maryland?

Out of the Ashes, the Phoenix has risen for the Maryland Republican Party

"Out of the Ashes, the Phoenix has risen for the Maryland Republican Party"

By Augustus Alzona, former elected 2-term Montgomery County Republican State Central Committee Member.

Right after the 2002 gubernatorial elections, the incoming Ehrlich administration chose to anoint a rich, local businessman, John Kane, as Chairman of the Maryland Republican Party.  An Ehrlich-approved slate of other officer candidates (1st Vice Chair, 2nd Vice Chair, Treasurer, etc.), mainly white males with the exception of the 3rd Vice Chair and Secretary appointees, was also “elected” by acclamation.  That team of chosen candidates was officially placed into office by the virtual unanimous consent of all the state central committee members present at the 2002 quadrennial convention of the state Party.

What both they and the Ehrlich campaign did and/or did not do during their four years in office was partially responsible for the failed reelection bid of Ehrlich in 2006, plus the loss of Republican seats in certain key areas of the state.

Right after the 2006 gubernatorial elections debacle, somewhat of a free-for-all campaign for state party leadership lead up to the 2006 Quadrennial Convention.  Chairman candidate, Jim Pelura, whom many thought to be the Ehrlich and/or Party establishment's man, easily won that race over an insurgent candidate who felt screwed over by the Ehrlich team that year.  White males were elected to ALL the other state leadership (party officer) positions as well.  However, their particular racial status were not as harmful to the Party’s outreach (“Big Tent”) efforts as the fact that most of those elected did NOT represent their respective county constituencies as they should have.  Regardless, the credibility gap between the state party leadership and the local grassroots Party faithful continued on for another four years, despite the efforts of recently departed Chairperson, Audrey Scott (elected 11/2009 to replace Pelura, who had just resigned).

Fast forward to December 2010. - DESPITE the concerted behind-the-scenes efforts of the Maryland Republican Party’s establishment, with the open support of the lamestream media and the Washington establishment (regardless of Party), to maintain control over the rank and file of the Party statewide by the election of Mary Kane, outgoing MD State Senator Alex X. Mooney easily won election as its new chairman.

Saturday, December 11, 2010

Mission Accomplished! - With Tea Party help, traditional grassroots conservatives insure Mooney elected Maryland GOP Chairman.

In a hotly contested race, State Senator Alex X. Mooney of Frederick, was elected Chairman of the Maryland Republican Party at its Quadrennial Convention in Annapolis, Maryland, this morning.  Grassroots conservatives, including "Tea Party" members, insured a solid victory for Mooney by the second round of balloting taken after Mike Esteves, William Campbell and Sam Hale dropped out of the race.  One significant highlight of Mooney's victory is that he received the majority of Montgomery County's votes (a non-weighted tally of 23 raw votes to Mary Kane's 18).

In addition to all of those others who voted for Alex, we especially thank Montgomery County Republican Central Committee Members Al Phillips (LD 39), Jeff Brown (LD 39) and Rick Hansen (LD 14), for helping us rally members within the county.  Rick Hansen also helped facilitate candidate Sam Hale's honorable withdrawal from the race after the first ballot plus Hale's having asked his supporters to switch their earlier votes over to Mooney.

We would also like to thank Joe Burns (Carroll County), Erik Robey (Anne Arundel County)  and Joe Crawford (Charles County) for their leadership and help with coordinating other members in their respective delegations, as well as helping us get additional support for Alex statewide.
